Reverse Trick-or-Treat Service Project

The MOMS Club of Virginia Beach-E, VA is full of some real superheroes, not to mention the princesses, and animals.  This year, they all teamed up to make Halloween about something more than going door-to-door and getting candy – they made it about giving back to their community by organizing a reverse trick-or-treat at a local retirement home.

On a Friday morning, shortly after breakfast, residents of the local retirement home were literally treated as members and their children went table to table delivering special candy and goodies to each resident.  Residents were thrilled to receive pretzels, hard candy, chocolate, and other special treats (nothing too chewy!) from the children as they paraded around in their Halloween best.  Even the babies of the chapter — who weren’t quite old enough to walk the busy route — earned lots of smiles from the crowd for their super-cute (and super-scary!) costumes.

The event was set up by a former chapter member who works as the activities director at the retirement home.   The timing of the event was perfect!  Residents of the retirement home get lots of visits from their family on the weekends — but weekdays are typically much quieter.  This time, though, the retirement home was full of life and laughter as residents welcomed the very lively trick-or-treaters.

The retirement home was so happy with their visit, that they’ve already invited the moms and kids back for Christmas.  Instead of Halloween costumes and chocolates, they’ll be rehearsing some carols and bringing candy canes.  Santa is going to be coming soon to Virginia Beach!
